The Nigerian Army Officers wives Association (NAOWA) has facilitated the freedom of 13 female inmates who were jailed at the Suleja Correctional Centre for inability to pay their fines, owing to various offences they committed.
Speaking at the event, the NAOWA National President, Mrs Umma-kalsum Tukur Buratai who was represented by Mrs Jamilat Adeosun stated that, the visit to Suleja Correctional Center was to commemorate the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference 2020.
The NAOWA president admonished the freed inmates to always have the fear of God in them and avoid acts that are not in line with the religions they practice, stressing that no religion teaches erroneous conducts. She enjoined them to put into practice, the skills they acquired from the center adding that such skills will drive poverty and lack far from them.
Members of the association also made donation of sanitary packages to the female inmates as well as food items, beverages and cleaning materials for the center.
Similarly, as part of the activities to mark the Conference, NAOWA organized a one-day seminar for officers’ and soldiers’ wives in Abuja during which the NAOWA President noted that the women needed to upgrade their knowledge of keeping the home front safe and healthy.
She said topics such as Care of Mental Health issues in Women; Depression and Anxiety, Diabetes and Hypertension, Health and Longevity secrets/Techniques were selected to keep the women abreast with the current health challenges and ways to ameliorate them.
According to her, “This seminar is an event aimed at enhancing the capacity of personnel’s wives in issues pertaining to healthy living. It is deliberately intended to improve their mental and physical wellbeing and capability”.
Mrs Umma-kalsum Tukur Buratai also commissioned 2 solar boreholes at the Corporal and Below Quarters (CBQ) at Mambila Barracks Extension and laid the foundation for the construction of 20 Stop and Shop building at Shehu Musa Yaradua Barracks Abuja.
Mrs Buratai while performing the commissioning ceremony promised to embark on more developmental project to compliment the effort of the Nigerian Army in ensuring a comfortable living for spouses of officers and soldiers.
