NAOWA DONATES TO PRISON, RELEASED 9 INMATES

The National President, Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) and Wife of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Mrs Umma-Kalsum Tukur Buratai has  commended the effort of the Deputy Comptroller of Prison (DCP) in-charge of Kuje Prison Mr Musa Tanko for keying into the present Prison reform agenda of the Federal Government.  She made the commendation recently when she led NAOWA Executive members to the prison to donate assorted food items, beverages and clothing materials to inmates.

Mrs Buratai who was emotionally touched by the circumstance that led to imprisonment of some inmates effected the release of nine prison inmates who were given option of fine by paying it off. While addressing the inmates, Mrs Buratai made know that NAOWA is a Charitable and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) whose primary objectives included touching the lives of the less privileged, children and prisoners like them. She warned the released prisoners to henceforth be law abiding and God fearing, stressing that the society offers many opportunities to exploit other than engage in unlawful acts.

While conducting the NAOWA envoy round the prison facilities, DCP Tanko conducted revealed that in line with the new Prison reform, imprisonment is no longer a punitive measure but rather a reform process aimed at transforming, rehabilitating and reintegrating convicts back into the society as better citizens. He thanked NAOWA for the kind gesture and prayed that God will give them more strength to be providing succor to the needy. Highlight of the event were musical and dance entertainment by the inmates.

In a similar development, the NAOWA National president led other NAOWA members on charity outreach to Kuchigoro Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camp and Nyanya General Hospital where assorted food items, beverages and clothing materials were presented to the IDPs and Patients.
