In its quest to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and vulnerable members of the society, the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) recently constructed a medical centre and two classrooms block equipped with medical facilities and learning materials for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) Camps in Abuja.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the NAOWA National President, Mrs Umma-Kalsum Tukur Buratai who demonstrated her motherly care to the IDPs observed that health which is most essential for human existence was lacking in all the IDP camps. She noted that the medical and learning centers were conceived out of the association’s concern for education and healthy living condition of the IDPs.
Mrs Buratai pointed out that the insurgency in the North-East has left many children of school age out of school, saying that the two classrooms block equipped with furniture and books will enable the children learn despite the un-conducive environment. She remarked that some of the children will be future leaders of the society.
The NAOWA Boss called on spirited Nigerians and other NGOs to emulate this good gesture and come to the aid of the IDPs noting that good welfare programmes will go a long way in alleviating their plight.
Mrs Buratai while handed over the keys of the facilities charged the Chairman of the Camp Mr. Ibrahim Ahmadu to ensure proper maintenance and care of the facilities, adding that the IDPs must ensure sanitary environment at all times.
In his message of appreciation, the Chairman of the IDPs Camp Durumi, Mr Ibrahim Ahmadu commended NAOWA for their good gesture saying that the project will ever remain in the minds of IDPs. He promised to ensure judicious use of the facility for the benefit of all.
Also speaking the Woman Leader, Durumi IDPs Camp, Mrs Liyatu Ayuba commended NAOWA for coming to their aid. She recalling that lots of children have died prematurely due to lack of immediate medical care. She prayed for total victory of Nigerian Army troops in frontline over the insurgents.
In the same spirit, the National President in company of NAOWA Executives also visited Abuja Children Orphanage home, Favor Land Orphanage Home Autabalaifi in Nassarawa State and IDPs at Massalacin Baribari in Karu.
Items donated include food items, toiletries, beverages and clothing materials. Others include drugs and writing materials for the IDPs.
