To commemorate the African Land Forces Summit 2018, the National President Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association, Mrs Umma-Kalsum Tukur Buratai in company of the Wife of the Chief of Army Staff Malian Army, Mrs Fataumata Abdulrahmane Baby has paid a charity visit to Kuje Prison and bailed out all inmates with minor offences that had options of fine.
Mrs Buratai who was accompanied by other NAOWA members also made donation of food items, beverages and cleaning materials to the inmates. She admonished the inmates to take their skills acquisition programmes very seriously as it is key to economic independence. She pointed out that there are enough and better opportunities to be harnessed while out of the prison.
Briefing the team earlier, the Comptroller Kuje Prisons DCP Onoja Innocent said Kuje prison services have keyed into the federal government programme of de-radicalization, decongestion and reformation of prisons inmates. He revealed that 76 inmates registered for WAEC while several others graduated from the National Open University of Nigeria.
Also speaking, Mrs Fataumata Abdulrahmane said she was impressed with high level skills acquisition training going on in the prisons. As a mother she said, women will continue to support prisons programmes targeted at rehabilitation rather than punishment. She encouraged the staff to treat the inmates as their own children.
